The sale, supply and administration of prescriptiononly medicines (POMs) are restricted by the Human Medicines Regulations 2012. A pharmacist is able to sell or supply a POM under the authority of a prescription from an appropriate practitioner (for example, a doctor, dentist, supplementary prescriber, independent prescriber or community practitioner nurse), or via an exemption (see section 3.3.9 and 3.3.10).
