RPS President, Professor Claire Anderson, recently visited pharmacy teams in South-East Wales to see first-hand the innovative work driving forward the implementation of pharmacy’s 2030 vision in Wales.
On the first day of her visit, Professor Anderson met with the team at St Mary's Pharmaceutical Unit in Cardiff, a specialist manufacturer that provides a range of medicines and pharmaceutical services for patients across Wales and customers worldwide. She was accompanied by RPS Director for Wales, Elen Jones.
The following day, Professor Anderson visited the pharmacy team at the Grange University Hospital. Alongside RPS Wales Policy and Practice Lead, Alwyn Fortune, she toured the pharmacy department and met with pharmacy teams delivering patient care, including A&E, Gastroenterology and ITU. She also spoke to clinical leads from other professions who praised the work of the pharmacy teams and stressed their essential role within specialist multi-disciplinary teams. The visit underscored the pharmacy team's commitment to delivering patient-centred care by consistently practicing at the highest levels of their professional licenses.
During her time in Wales, Professor Anderson joined the RPS Wales team, alongside Chief Executive Paul Bennett, at the Cardiff office to discuss the proposal to become a royal college with local pharmacists, as part of our ongoing roadshows across England, Scotland and Wales.
Commenting on the visit, Claire said:
“As a graduate of Cardiff University, it’s always great to come back to Wales. During my time here, I had the privilege of visiting two pharmacy sites that truly embody the best of the profession and are leading the way in making the most of the pharmacy team’s skills.
“I’m incredibly grateful to both the teams at St Mary’s and the Grange for their warm welcome and for taking the time to showcase their fantastic work. Both visits were incredibly informative and illustrated the breadth of crucial roles our profession plays in patient care.
