On Saturday 22nd June, for the first time, RPS members took part in Cardiff Pride to celebrate, raise awareness, and advocate for equal rights for LGBTQIA+ people.
RPS Director for Wales Elen Jones said: “We’re so proud to walk with RPS members for the first time at Cardiff Pride, a fantastic celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community. It was a joyous occasion where allies and the community come together to mark the progress that’s been made, whilst ensuring the need to seek equality and social acceptance is not forgotten.
“RPS is committed to building a profession that embraces diversity, values different identities and provides a sense of belonging. Our presence here today, along with thousands of other participants and spectators, highlights both the positive experiences and challenges still faced by LGBTQIA+ people."
The march took place during Pride Month, which RPS has also marked by sharing our LGBTQIA+ microaggressions posters and our new LGBTQIA+ glossary on our social media channels to help people better inform their conversations with colleagues and patients. We also shared blogs from Raj Pandya on the importance of LGBTQIA+ networks in making positive changes in organisations, and Stevie Watson on Pride in Pharmacy, an online resource for developing knowledge and confidence around LGBTQ+ inclusivity in community pharmacy.
