The RPS Assembly is the primary governance body of RPS which is responsible for setting strategic direction, financial management and organisational governance.
Commenting on the following discussion points at the Assembly’s July meeting, RPS President Professor Claire Anderson said:
New committee appointments
“Assembly ratified the appointments of Amareen Kamboh as Chair of the Education and Standards Committee, Richard Strang as Chair of the Membership Committee, Alexander Daghlian about the Chair of the Panel of Fellows, and Christine Bond as interim Chair of the Science and Research Committee. Each brings expertise that will help us as we build a future-focused Royal College of Pharmacy that champions excellence.”
Constitution & Governance Review
“All major decisions that fall to Assembly have now been made to set up our intended future structures as a trading subsidiary for Pharmaceutical Press and our charitable status. We are in an excellent position and are working to operationalise these plans. Our focus remains on ensuring robust governance and a seamless transition to Royal College status in mid-April 2026.
“Our future strategy is in development and will be for the future Board of Trustees to consider and ultimately determine. It will naturally build on our five commitments, which align with UKPPLAB’s vision and common purpose document and RPS existing visions for the future of pharmacy for England, Scotland and Wales. These have all been central in shaping conversations with organisations within the pharmacy ecosystem who have given helpful and constructive feedback, for which we are very grateful.”
UKPPLAB collaboration
“The spirit of collaboration across the UK Pharmacy Professional Leadership Advisory Board is truly inspiring. Together, we are building a model of leadership that truly reflects the needs of the profession and the patients we serve. The conversations in the Co-Creation Liaison Group are especially positive, with challenges met with generosity and a real spirit of collaboration to improve professional leadership. The next meeting of UKPPLAB is on 09 December and I look forward to the momentum generated so far continuing into the new year.
“Sir Hugh co-chaired a packed session on professional leadership at our annual conference which was constructive and upbeat. I was delighted with strong support we received from members when we fed back about the online events and all member survey we ran in September and October to ensure we received input about our future strategy from as wide an audience as possible.”
FIP
“As part of our renewed commitment to global pharmacy leadership, we participated in the recent FIP Congress in Copenhagen, where we presented six posters across five key policy areas, actively contributed to sessions on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and joined over 80 nations in signing the FIP Copenhagen Declaration on AMR. We receive hugely positive feedback when we attend global conferences to share learning and showcase the achievements of pharmacy in Great Britain, and we continue to host visiting international pharmacy bodies to strengthen collaboration.”
The next Assembly meeting will take place 24-25 March 2026.
