Throughout October, we celebrated Black History Month by recognising the invaluable contributions of Black people to British society and pharmacy.
This year’s Black History Month theme, Standing Firm in Power and Pride, was a powerful tribute to the resilience, strength and unwavering commitment to progress of the Black communities within pharmacy.
Standing Firm in Power and Pride event

At our London office, we gathered in-person and online for an event that highlighted the profound contributions made by Black pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and members of the wider pharmacy team who have broken barriers and created space and pathways within pharmacy. Campaigner, author and teacher Stephen Lawrence, Honorary APTUK member, also spoke movingly about his late brother Stephen and the mindset needed to create change in ourselves and others.
Catch up on the highlights in this video by Diane Ashiru-Oredope, member of the RPS Science and Research Committee. The event was held in collaboration with APTUK, BPSA, the Female Pharmacy Leaders Network, Pharmacy Technicians of Colour, GHP, the UK Black Pharmacists Association and Pharmacy Business Magazine.
