Celebrating Black History Month 2024

BHM event attendees

Throughout October, we celebrated Black History Month (BHM) by hosting an event at our London office sharing blogs and resources on our social media channels. Catch up on our highlights from the month.

Reclaiming Narratives event

This year’s Black History Month theme, Reclaiming Narratives, highlights the importance of recognising and correcting the narratives of Black history and culture. At our London office, we gathered in-person and online for a panel event that highlighted the positive stories, achievements and contributions of Black professionals in pharmacy. The event included the chance to network and connect over a selection of traditional food.

Amandeep Doll, RPS Head of Engagement and Professional Belonging, said: “This year’s Black History Month, with its theme ‘Reclaiming Narratives,' really highlights the power of challenging negative narratives and celebrating the achievements of Black professionals. It’s a great chance to share inspiring role models and talk about the challenges they face to help inspire future generations of pharmacy team members.

“Reflecting on our recent event, which we co-hosted with APTUK, BPSA, Female Pharmacy Leaders Network, Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians of Colour and UK Black Pharmacists Association, the atmosphere was really positive. Black pharmacy professionals felt seen and appreciated, and I hope this has helped strengthen that feeling of belonging and community in our profession.”

Reclaiming the Narrative social cards

We invited you to share your stories of reclaiming the narrative. Throughout the month, we’ve featured these stories on our social media via #ReclaimingNarratives and #RPSIandD. Check out the stories shared here.
