RPS responds to review of RSHE statutory guidance

Tase Oputu, RPS England Board ChairThe Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has responded to the Government’s consultation on the review of the relationships, sex and health education (RSHE) statutory guidance. The RPS welcomes the proposal to teach pupils about self-care and the role of pharmacists in providing advice on minor ailments.

The review is to help ensure that guidance supports schools to provide high-quality RSHE which meets the needs of children and young people.

Tase Oputu, RPS England Board Chair, said:

“We welcome the fact that the revised Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education statutory guidance proposes to include acknowledgement of the critical role that pharmacists play in self-care.

“RPS has advocated long and hard for increased awareness of the role pharmacists play in the provision of self-care. As part of the Self-Care Strategy Group we have worked with partner organisations to help shape the policy landscape around self-care.”
