Scottish Labour’s Glasgow South Candidate for Westminster, Gordon McKee, visited Right Dose Pharmacy on Cathcart Road to meet with the pharmacy team and discuss RPS’s vision for the future of Pharmacy, Pharmacy 2030.
Mr McKee was very keen to meet with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, the professional body for pharmacy and pharmacists, to hear about our bold vision for the future of pharmacy and to meet with one of his local community pharmacy teams who are already working hard to put these ideas into action.
Royal Pharmaceutical Society are the voice of pharmacy during this Summer’s General Election, and we have been pitching to candidates from across the political spectrum our ideas about how we can support pharmacy teams to make the most of their skills and talents, so we can improve patient care.
In Scotland, we are highlighting some of our policy ideas which can be implemented by the next Westminster Government to benefit pharmacy teams and patients in Scotland including:
- Reviewing the UK’s medicines supply chain so we can ensure patients get the medicines they need.
- Building on the UK’s position as a global leader in new medicines to deliver better outcomes for patients.
- Ensuring the UK remains an attractive place for the world’s best talent to live, work and study to support the pharmacy workforce.
RPS is making an open offer to all candidates standing for election to Westminster in July to visit a pharmacy setting in their local area so they can hear about the fantastic work which pharmacists are doing and the policy changes that would make a difference and improve patient care.
Speaking after his visit Mr McKee said:
“Thank you very much to Royal Pharmaceutical Society for inviting me to Right Dose Pharmacy in Glasgow South today.
I was absolutely delighted to witness the fantastic work which this pharmacy team are engaged in on behalf of the local community.
Pharmacists and pharmacy teams work so hard and have so much to offer. It is vital that they can work in a policy environment which allows them to thrive.
“If elected I am committed to working with Royal Pharmaceutical Society and pharmacists across Glasgow South to build this environment, in particular, by working to tackle medicines shortages which are having a detrimental impact on patient care and making the UK an attractive destination for pharmacists to live, work and study.”
